Dogs have a proven track record for detecting the presence of toxic mold with a greater than 90% accuracy rate. Unlike other detection methods, Catalina will find the mold and pinpoint it to the exact problem area - whether it is the size of a coin or an entire wall.
Catalina will promptly locate any problem areas and will not waste time. With only a single 60-minute visit, you will immediately know three important details before we leave:
Faster and more accurate results lead to better health outcomes and lower remediation costs.
There's no need for you to prepare your space for Catalina's visit. Our expert handler will ensure that Catalina is only there for the specific job of toxic mold detection. We use no chemicals nor artificial materials in our search, and we will navigate your areas with care and respect. We will leave your space as we found it with no trace of any disturbance.
ERMI testing can be costly and ineffective. Air testing doesn't pinpoint the problem areas. Mold Dog Company will deliver immediate, accurate results for a single flat rate.
Molds are organisms that are indoors and outdoors. They are part of the natural environment by breaking down and digesting organic material. Also called fungi or mildew, molds are neither plants nor animals. They are in the fungi kingdom. There are millions of species that help our planet by growing new forests after a fire or decomposing disposable diapers through their hard working spores. Meanwhile, when mold occurs indoors it can cause a host of issues for residents.
Mold frequently grows in hidden places – behind wall linings, in floors or behind installations – and is often not visible from the outside. When moisture builds up from leaky pipes or roofs, high humidity, or flooding, conditions are ideal for mold growth. Molds are easily disturbed and their spores can become airborne, getting into noses, mouths and lungs.
Inhalation of mold indoors can cause health effects in some by producing allergens, irritants and potentially toxic substances or chemicals that are a byproduct of mold called mycotoxins. Molds can cause a host of health issues in those whole are allergic to it.
Moisture control is the key to mold control, so when water leaks or spills occur indoors – ACT QUICKLY. If wet or damp materials or areas are dried 24-48 hours after a leak or spill happens, in most cases mold will not grow.
Prevent condensation: Reduce the potential for condensation on cold surfaces (i.e., windows, piping, exterior walls, roof, or floors) by adding insulation.
You may suspect hidden mold if the air smells moldy, but you cannot see the source, or if you know there has been water damage. Mold may be hidden in places such as the back side of dry wall, wallpaper, or paneling, the top side of ceiling tiles, the underside of carpets and pads, etc. Other possible locations of hidden mold include areas inside walls around pipes (with leaking or condensing pipes), the surface of walls behind furniture (where condensation forms), inside ductwork, and in roof materials above ceiling tiles (due to roof leaks or insufficient insulation).
Sampling for mold should be conducted by professionals who have specific experience in designing mold sampling protocols, sampling methods, and interpreting results. There are tests for surface samples and air samples, but only Mold Dogs can pinpoint the problem areas that are not visible.
As a young pup, I've been trained to use my nose to find truffles in the forests of the PNW and to detect early stages of Parkinson's disease in humans. Now in my mature years, I've been trained by Bill Whitestine (CMT), the early pioneer in animal mold search, to expertly detect the 18 types of mold known to be toxic to humans.
My breed is Lagotto Romagnolo, and we have hair, not fur. So, I promise not to leave any trace of being in your space, plus some of my human friends with allergy sensitivities find it easier to be around me because I don't carry the same allergens as other breeds with fur.
Corinna began her professional journey in textiles and clothing design, where she developed a deep appreciation for aesthetics, texture, and function. Her creative path eventually led her into the world of interior home design, with a particular passion for crafting comfortable, nurturing, and health-conscious living spaces.
A turning point in Corinna’s life came through personal experiences with mold toxicity, coupled with witnessing the significant health challenges it brought to friends and loved ones. These experiences sparked a deeper commitment to understanding the impact of environmental health—especially toxic mold—and how to support those affected by it.
Driven by a natural affinity for helping people, animals, and plants thrive in their healthiest form, Corinna now brings her care and creativity to the work of identifying and addressing indoor mold issues. While she acknowledges that fungi have an important role in the natural world, she believes that when toxic mold invades our homes, it’s time to act—seeking it out and eliminating what doesn't belong.
